Books for Tweens

I’m not sure about you but I haven’t found Lockdown the easiest?! The boys on the other hand seem to have taken to it without complaint (well bar homeschooling).  From X-Box to Nintendo Switch; Netflix to Disney Plus, there have been so many online ways for our kids to stay in touch and catch up on games, TV and films.  However, the worry is that reading has taken a back seat whilst they try to stay in touch with each other.

So with all the worries of Coronavirus and the social loneliness caused by lockdown then sometimes escaping into a book is exactly what our kids need.  Cue Louise the Laugh to the rescue.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]

Louis the Laugh

How to change your Parents into Superstars is the sixth book in the extremely popular Louis the Laugh series.  Written by child and teen author Pete Johnson and illustrated by James Cottell.  My boys were massive fans of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ and ‘Tom Gates’, so when we were asked to review the book, I knew they would love.  As did I…

A side-splittingly laugh out loud story of Louis and his quest to become famous in today’s online world. The fickle world of girlfriends and annoying little brothers.  As well as the embarrassment of parents when they ‘discover’ themselves mid-life.  The book uses humour and mischievousness to deliver a coming-of-age story in today’s technological and social media obsessed world.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=”59238″ media_width_percent=”100″][vc_column_text]A study from the University of Sussex has shown reading for just 6 minutes a day reduces stress levels by 68%.  And when we know that smartphone usage before bed can lead to poor sleep quality, as well as reading fiction is linked to our ability to understand that peoples thoughts and beliefs are different from our own.

The great thing about the series is that you can read any of the books without having read the previous.  And with the next few months looking just as unsure as the last few, then a little escapism and laughter are just what our kids need.  So whatever the future holds and whether the kids make in back to school in September or not, I thoroughly recommend this series to keep them laughing throughout! We can’t wait to read the rest…[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
