The kitchen arrived. The floor wasn’t ready. I The kitchen arrived.

The floor wasn’t ready.

I didn’t cope well.

But got there in the end!
We found nothing but positives moving to Thornton- We found nothing but positives moving to Thornton-Le-Dale!

We’re struggling to find a negative…
The first of a weekly series. #FarmhouseFriday wil The first of a weekly series. #FarmhouseFriday will talk you through an individual room and what’s happened during the last week. I also want to be completely upfront and say that we were very kindly #GIFTED the wall panels used in this bathroom.

This week is a walk through the family bathroom which is the first room pretty much finished (though check the end of the reel for those bits to remind you it ain’t all perfect!).

I knew I wanted a clean, crisp and industrial look but to soften with some greenery. I must admit the window did prove a little bit of problem as it is essentially floor to ceiling and faces onto the main road. But I absolutely love the ‘Japanese’ screen. The wall panels are absolutely genius. Quick and pretty easy to install, and super easy to wipe down/keep clean 👌🏻

This bathroom came in at under £2.5k and I’m really chuffed with how it turned out.

Yes we had to cut out some of the panel because the plumber was given duff information about the basin by someone who shall remain nameless (not me!) and the waste pipe still need to be fixed and boxed in properly. And of course, the original door needs re-hanging. But it’s a win in my eyes, a room I can finally just look at and it makes the rest of the mess and dust worthwhile.

When you move to a picture postcard village such a When you move to a picture postcard village such as Thornton-Le-Dale you really do step into a whole other world. Typical village life where you get to know people and everyone looks out for each other, but with the added bonus of being a tourist attraction which means you get to meet new people every weekend in the pub/chippie/queue for ice-cream.

Where the beck flows gently, helping your brain to chill and providing you with beautiful walks.

Where the mayor sells ice-cream from his bike at duck pond, and you are never short of lovely cafes and deli’s.

We fell in love with the house after 10 mins, but it’s taken even less time to fall in love with the village and the people.

If you’re thinking of making the move to a more rural pace of life, I would absolutely recommend, 100%!

Places to eat and drink that I’d recommend:
@cafebouchere_thorntonledale
@soniamoore909 at Moore’s Deli
@new_inn_thornton
And the chippie!

And of course ice cream from:

and the mayor from his bike when the weather is right
Nobody warns you that renovating a house with an A Nobody warns you that renovating a house with an AuDHD brain is basically a full-time job in overwhelm…

I have each bathroom sourced line by line on a spreadsheet, costed to the penny, colour coded by which bathroom, but ask me to remember the size of the shower tray for the master bathroom off the top of my head, no chance...

All the downstairs living rooms’ colour palettes were chosen to match specific wallpapers, the walls are all painted, but by the time I get round to ordering the wallpaper, who’s to say it’ll still be in stock...

The excitement of the kitchen arriving any day now, but the stress of having had no workmen here this week, the floor still needing to be levelled and matting to be put down. Like, where is it all gonna go...

and in the midst of all this, I’m still trying to balance working life, still trying to sort Sam’s transfer of school to a new LA (which, with an EHCP, is not a simple process) and deal with his school refusal, which has reared its head again with all the changes...
Meet Hall Farm. A Grade II listed Victorian farmh Meet Hall Farm.

A Grade II listed Victorian farmhouse in the village of Thornton-le-Dale, North Yorkshire. Built in the 1800s, full of original features, and — as of this year — ours.

The surveyor’s report was... detailed. The to-do list is long. The kitchen is a whole thing. But the tiles are original, the sash windows are staying, and the view from the back of the house makes every single complication feel completely, entirely worth it.

Swipe through to meet the house that started all of this — and if you want to follow the restoration in real time, hit follow. Every Friday I’ll be sharing a Farmhouse Friday update as we work through it room by room.

It’s going to be a journey. I’m so glad you’re here for it. 🏡
